Police confident in charging suspects in tourist murder case

SURAT THANI, Oct 4 (TNA) - A senior police officer said Saturday that police have enough evidence to file charges in a court against two Myanmar migrant workers suspected of murdering two British tourists. Pol. Maj. Gen. Suwat Chaengyodsook of Metropolitan Police Bureau said high ranking police officers would meet today and review police operations as well as witness protection after the suspects have been sent to a jail on Koh Samui in Surat Thani. He said police are not concerned if the two suspects overturned their statements in court because it is their rights but police have enough evidence against them. Meanwhile, Pol. Col. Prachum Ruangthong, chief of Koh Phangan police station, said police expect to complete charges against the two suspects and forward to the prosecutor next Monday. The bodies of Hannah Victoria Witheridge, 23, and David William Miller, 24, were found on a beach of Koh Tao, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand and off the coast of Surat Thani, early on September 15. Both were brutally murdered while Miss Witheridge was also raped. (TNA)
