Police Confiscate Nine Kilograms Of Crystal Meth In Medan

Medan, North Sumatra, April 24 (Antara) - A team from the Fourth Narcotic Directorate of the National Police`s Crime Investigation Department confiscated nine kilograms of crystal methamphetamine during raids here on Tuesday. The chief of the directorate, Brigadier General Arman Depari, said here on Wednesday that during the raids in a five-star hotel and a house in a residential complex in Medan, the police also secured 10,021 ecstasy and 6,785 happy five psychotropic pills as well as 250 grams of ecstasy powder. Other pieces of evidence confiscated were 14 cellphones believed to be used for conducting transactions and a knife used by a suspect to fight the police. The raids were carried out following the arrest of a narcotic drugs kingpin in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, who was part of a network in Medan, he said. He said the operation was done after the police received information about narcotic drugs from Malaysia entering Medan for distribution later in Banjarmasin, Surabaya and Malang in East Java, Bali, Lombok and East Nusa Tenggara. On April 16, 2013 DM (23), a resident of Jalan Hasyim Ashari in Malang, East Java, received a telephone call from suspect FR, who has been declared a wanted person by the police, who told him to fetch narcotic stuff from dealers in Medan namely RPK (27) a resident of Berombak village in the Medan sub-district, and KK (50) a resident of Sei Agul in West Medan sub-district. The stuff was brought from Banjarmasin for delivery to RH (29),a resident of Melayu village in the Central Banjarmasin district and MR (27) a resident of Pemurus Baru village in the sub-district of South Banjarmasin. After having strong evidence the police arrested three members of the network in two star-rated hotels in Banjarmasin on April 18 confiscating seven kilograms of meth and 7,000 happy five pills. After knowing where the drugs came from the police then investigated the activities of RPK and KK who were staying in a five-star hotel in Medan and found that the two received the meth and 10,000 ecstasy pills from a man named Mursal from Malaysia. When he was about to be arrested on April 23, RPK attacked the officer with a knife forcing the police to shoot him. He died while he was taken to a hospital. The police later took KK during a raid to a house belonging to Mursal in the Bumi Hijau Regency housing estate in Medan. There he tried to flee and so the police shot him causing his death. He said the police are still developing the case to chase existing members of the network including coordinating with the Malaysian police with regard to finding the whereabouts of Mursal. The police would process other suspects caught in the operation and would charge them with violating Article 114 of the narcotic law carrying minimally a sentence of five years in jail, he stated.
