Police Deploys Tens Of Personnel To Secure Timika Situation

Timika, Papua, Aug 13 (Antara) - The Papua Regional Police has sent two platoons of Mobile Brigade (Brimob), Unit of Jayapura, to Timika to secure the tense situation following the murder of Dani Tribe Head Korea Waker in the area. Deputy Chief of Papua Regional Police Brigadier General Paulus Waterpauw said to Antara here on Wednesday that one of the two Brimob platoons had arrived on Wednesday afternoon, while another will arrive on Thursday, Aug 14. Additionally, Mimika 1710 Regional Military Command has also prepared 100 soldiers to assist the police in avoiding spreading of clash to other areas. Five deaths have been reported following the clash that occurred due to the accusation that Korea was murdered. Three persons had sustained injury and have been hospitalized in various locations in Timika. "We are concerned and worried about the incident in Timika. The people do not want such incidents to occur in Papua," Paulus noted. The Chief of Papua Regional Police Brigadier General Jotje Mende had assigned Paulus and Security and Intelligence Director of Papua Police Senior Commissioner Yakobus Marjuki to directly visit Timika to take control of the situation along with the Mimika Resort Police Chief Senior Commissioner Adjunct Jermias Rontini and Commander of 1710 Mimika Regional Military Lieutenant Colonel Rafles Manurung. According to Paulus, Mimika police chief with the local leader`s association had established communication with the victim`s family. The family, says Paulus, has agreed to remain peaceful till the murder case is solved. However, the relatives of the victim have been resorting to violent means. The body of Korea was found near Kali Merah bridge of Logpon-Pigapu village on Monday, Aug 11. Four of the five victims had been buried in Timika on Wednesday afternoon, while one was taken back to Makassar on Tuesday, Aug 12.
