Police-hunt for Bangkok bomb suspects continues

BANGKOK, September 13 (TNA) - Thailand’s deputy national police chief Police General Chakthip Chaichinda says police has identified the man in yellow shirt suspected of planting a bomb at the Bangkok Erawan shrine last month that killed up to 20 people, mostly foreigners, and wounded up to 130 others. The deputy police chief however, declined to disclose the identity of the yellow-shirted suspect, saying it could affect police operations. He also admitted to have travelled to Sadao district bordering Malaysia in an attempt to follow up the case. Intelligence reports had pointed out that Malaysian police had apprehended a Pakistani bomb suspect and they had already informed their Thai counterparts who had requested for further interrogation on the whereabouts of the yellow-shirted man and another youth wearing light blue shirt. Thai police said they believed the two were key suspects behind last month’s deadly Bangkok bombing. They also believed the Pakistani man had helped the duo escape out of Kuala Lumpur. According to intelligence reports, it was still unknown whether Malaysian police would send the Pakistani man into Thailand’s custody. In another development, the Royal Thai Police had requested Interpol worldwide to nail suspected bombing mastermind Abudureheman Abudusataer, known as Ishan, whom Thai police believed had fled to Bangladesh on August 16, a day before the blast took place. It was expected that Ishan’s exact whereabouts would be revealed on Monday. Meanwhile, Vittaya Suriyawong, director-general of Thai Justice Ministry’s Corrections Department, said on Monday soldiers would pick up two arrested foreign suspects -- Adem Karadag and Yusufu Mieraili -- to an army barrack for further detention.
