Police now suspect Asians as murderers of British tourists

BANGKOK, Sept 20 (TNA) - Pol. Gen. Somyos Phumphanmuang, the police chief-designate, early Saturday flew to Koh Tao, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand and off the southern province of Surat Thani and is the scene of murder of two British tourists, to order police in speeding up the case. Developments on the case have been achieved as police investigators said results of DNA tests from the bodies of the two victims showed the suspects are two Asian men, and not Europeans. Investigators are now suspecting Myanmar workers and Asians staying on the island. Police have already interrogated three Myanmar workers living on Koh Tao, one of them looked alike the man appearing on CCTV whose picture appeared near the place the murder took place. Police have collected DNA samples from the trio before releasing them. So far, police have interrogated and took DNA tests on more than 30 Thais and migrant workers since the probe began. The bodies of David William Miller, 24, and Hannah Victoria Witheridge, 23, were found early Monday. Since then, manhunt began but so far no suspect has been apprehended. (TNA)
