Police Rescue Human Trafficking Victims In Tanjung Priok Port

Jakarta, March 26 (Antara) - Tanjung Priok Police officers and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) rescued a number of human trafficking victims in a shop area of North Jakarta on Tuesday, March 25. "After investigation, we found 23 adults and a 15-year-old boy who were to be employed on a fishing boat," Chief of the Police Criminal Investigation Unit Tanjung Priok and Adjunct Police Commissioner Wirdanto Hadicaksono said in Jakarta on Wednesday. Wirdanto said the joint personnel gathered information regarding shelter for the people, who were to be employed as waiters, in one of the fishing boat shop houses at Muara Baru Center in North Jakarta. Then the joint team of officers raided the shop and found 24 potential victims of human trafficking. Apart from rescuing the 24 victims found in the shop, the police also arrested nine people suspected of running the illegal business. The victims and suspects are now in police custody for further investigation, Wirdanto said. Suspects are alleged to have committed a criminal offense related to the Child Protection Act and were suspected of human trafficking.
