Police seize 150 kg Narcotics In Isfahan

Isfahan, July 28, IRNA – Some 150 kilograms of narcotics was seized from two smugglers in a special operation in Isfahan, said commander of the city’s police. Colonel Mohammad Ali Bakhtiari said that investigations indicated that they intended to transit drugs to the city and they were arrested red-handed. Police surveyed their hideouts which led to seizure of 150 kilograms of narcotics and an automobile, he said. The commander said that fighting drug smuggling requires national will, urging the people to call the police in case of any of movement by the smugglers. Iran lies on a major drug route between Afghanistan and Europe, as well as the Persian Gulf states. Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Iranian police have lost more than 3,720 officers in the combat against narcotics. According to official estimates, Iran’s battle against drugs cost the country around $1 billion annually. Police have focused on strategies which includes digging canals, building barriers and installing barbed wire fences to seal the borders, especially in the East./end
