Police to wrap up human trafficking case by mid-June

SONGKHLA, May 31 (TNA) - As trafficking of Rohingya has become an international problem, Thai police are putting efforts to conclude investigation on human trafficking case by mid-June. Pol. Maj. Gen. Praveen Pongsirin, deputy commander of Police Region 8 said in his capacity as the chief of human trafficking investigation team that a key human trafficker in the southern coastal province of Ranong bordering Myanmar identified as Nuttapat Saengthong alias Ko Mik had been apprehended in Myanmar on Saturday. The Thai embassy in Yangon is now requesting police there to hand over him so that he could be extradited and stand trial in Thailand. He said to date, police in the southern province of Songkhla have issued arrest warrants for 81 persons on charges of involving in human trafficking. A total of 52 accused persons have been either arrested or surrendered to police while 29 others are still at large. (TNA)
