Policemen mobilised to beef up security

SONGKHLA, Feb 11 (TNA) - More than 300 police officers were mobilised to beef up security in Thailand's southern Hat Yai district of Songkhla province throughout Makhabucha Buddhist holiday until Valentine’s Day on Tuesday. Over 300 policemen tourist police, and plainclothes police officers were mobilised to oversee security in important and crowded areas to create confidence among domestic and foreign tourists following attacks in three southernmost provinces. Various checkpoints have been set up along routes leading into the city, while undercover officers have be stationed at important tourist spots in the city’s business centre. Meanwhile, another team of officers has been tasked to inspect shops and entertainment venues to ensure they do not sell alcohol during Makhabucha Day. (TNA)
