Police:Probe into murder of two Britons is based on scientific evidence

SURAT THANI, THAILAND, September 24 (TNA) - Thailand's Acting National Police Chief Police General Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit says that an ongoing investigation into a recent murder of two Britons on Koh Tao, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand off Surat Thani Province in the Thai South, is to depend on scientific evidence and it, thus, takes some times. But Police General Watcharapol expressed confidence on Wednesday that police should arrest a suspect in the murder soon. Police General Watcharapol pointed out that some suspects in the murder on September 15 might be hiding in Bangkok, and that some others were detained for interrogation but they had not been arrested. The acting national police chief acknowledged that detectives, forensic police and doctors from Bangkok have been redeployed on Koh Tao to help local police find more evidence. The acting national police chief reported that DNA samples from two suspects who are speedboat attendants did not match those collected from the body of Hannah Victoria Witheridge, the female victim, and other evidence. Meanwhile, newly-appointed National Police Chief Police General Somyot Poompanmoung, who will take office on October 1, 2014, insisted that the Thai government attaches importance to the case and has been trying to nail culprits as soon as possible. Deputy National Police Chief Police General Aek Angsananont has arrived in Koh Tao to meet concerned detectives, give advice in the investigation and inspect locations relating to the murder. The bodies of the two slain British vicitms, 23-year-old Hannah Victoria Witheridge and 24-year-old David William Miller, were found on Koh Tao's Sairee Beach on September 15. (TNA)
