Polish deputy FM arrives in Tehran

Tehran, Jan 21, IRNA – The Deputy foreign minister of Poland Maciej Przemysław Lang arrived in Tehran on Monday to meet with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi. The visit takes place following Iran's protest to Poland due to Warsaw's co-hosting an anti-Iranian conference organized by the US, which is to be held in February 13-14. Recently, during a visit to West Asia, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that Poland, upon an American initiative, will host the conference which he dubbed as 'Future of Peace and Security in the Middle East.' Iranian authorities have repeatedly expressed their unhappiness about the plan and protested against the conference. On January 11, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif wrote on his Twitter account, “Reminder to host/participants of anti-Iran conference: those who attended last US anti-Iran show are either dead, disgraced, or marginalized. And Iran is stronger than ever.” Zarif added, “Polish Govt. can't wash the shame: while Iran saved Poles in WWII, it now hosts desperate anti-Iran circus.' During the World War II, about 140 to 150 thousand of the two million Polish civilians who were arrested by the Soviet secret police and deported to Siberia, arrived in Tehran, via Qazvin and Karaj, in about 3 years and left Iran through the Southern borders. They were warmly welcomed by Iranians. A number of Europeans have already announced that they will boycott the event. Follow us on Twitter @IrnaEnglish
