Poll shows Thai politics won’t change

BANGKOK, December 8 (TNA) - A new survey conduct by Thailand’s renowned Dusit Poll shows that despite public concern about the massive anti-government demonstration on Monday, more than 40 percent of people believe Thai politics would remain unchanged. The survey, including 1,588 people, about former Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban’s call for the “the final push,” in which protestors would march on all Bangkok roads to Government House on Monday to topple the government, found that 36.46 percent of the people did not want to see any violence. Another 30.39 percent said they would like to urge for maximum restraint among concerned parties because they did not want to see Thais fight against each other. Up to 27.9 percent also said the government should not use force against the protesters. Meanwhile, Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the major opposition Democrat Party, held urgent talks with his party on Sunday for crisis talks and direction before Monday’s big protest. Meanwhile, Prompong Nopparit, spokesman of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, urged those participating in anti-government rallies to realise the impact of their actions on the country’s image and economy, saying all matters should be resolved through politics. Prompong also alleged that the protesters only wanted to see a military coup resulting from Monday’s demonstration. (TNA)
