Position of Lithuania about territorial integrity of Azerbaijan remains same - ambassador

Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct.30 By Seba Aghayeva – Trend: Position of Lithuania about territorial integrity of Azerbaijan remains the same, it has been proved on a high level several times, the ambassador of Lithuania in Azerbaijan Valdas Lastaukas told Trend on Oct. 30. The ambassador was commenting on the information in Armenian media about showing an anti-Azerbaijani film on Nagorno-Karabakh, on Lithuanian "LRT Kultura" TV channel. The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions. Armenian media has distributed the information that the documentary of Vardan Hovhannisyan "People's stories during war and peace" has been aired on Lithuanian "LRT Kultura" TV channel. Lastaukas said the management of the channel approved the film to be shown. "As the channel's management said, the film is not banned, as it was demonstrated during a festival of foreign films," he said. "There were also Georgian and Azerbaijani films aired on the channel within the festival." "I can't comment on the film because I have not seen it," Lastaukas said. "But Lithuanian public, as well as Azerbaijani public, can determine a feature film of propaganda." The ambassador however said that if the film was made for someone else's interests, the people behind the film will hurt themselves in the first place, rather than society. Lithuania has always respected the fundamental principle of the international law – the principle of territorial integrity of states – and this position remains unchanged, he said.
