Prachaub Khiri Khan’s gaur death toll rises to 27

PRACHAUB KHIRI KHAN, Thailand, May 5 (TNA) - Another gaur has been found dead at Kui Buri National Park here, bringing the death toll to 27. Prawatsart Janthep, chief of the Kui Buri National Park, said patrolling park rangers found the carcass of a female gaur aged 8-10 years near the Hubtawit reservoir in a reforestation zone of the park on Monday. Prawatsart said the gaur might have died about a week ago and as the carcass was complete, authorities do not believe that poaching was the cause of its death. Gaurs have been mysteriously found dead in the national park since last December and the 26th carcass had been discovered last Saturday. So far, authorities have not been able to determine the exact cause of their death, although some of the dead gaurs had developed a symptom of foot-and-mouth disease, according the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.
