Preparations in good place for public referendum in Thai Northeast

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, THAILAND, July 26 (TNA) - Nakhon Ratchasima Province, the centre of the Thai northeastern region, in which a major red-clad government opposition base is seated, has announced its preparedness for the upcoming public referendum on Thailand's new Constitution draft, set on August 7 nationwide. A meeting of concerned agencies, chaired by Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Wichien Chantharanothai on Tuesday morning, concluded three main issues to fully support the forthcoming referendum, including public campaigns to be launched to encourage most local voters to come out to exercise their right, security measures to be implemented before, during and after the public referendum to maintain peace and order and intensified intelligence work to prevent any untoward incident and ensure a successful referendum in the province. Meanwhile, Nakhon Ratchasima Police Commander Police Major General Thakura Natisri told journalists that more than 4,000 local police officers have been mobilised to maintain peace and order and to provide facilitations at all 4,376 voting units in the province. Besides, 52 quick mobile response teams have been formed to deal with incidents, if any. The local police commander cited intelligence reports as saying that there have been no irregular movements in Nakhon Ratchasima, also known as Korat, so far. (TNA)
