President Ahmadinejad Condoles Demise Of Father Of Iran’s Geography

Tehran, July 23, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a message condoled the demise of Mohammad Hassan Ganji, the father of Iran’s modern geography science, founder of Iran’s Meteorological Organization, the selected scientist of the world in the filed of meteorology in 2001. In his message, President Ahmadinejad highlighted the role of Professor Ganji in breeding great scientists in the field of geography science and boosting Iran’s profile in the world. Professor Ganji passed away in one of Tehran’s hospitals at the age of 101 last Thursday. Ganji was born in June 1912 in the northeastern city of Birjand and he spent his primary and secondary education in that city. He went to the US and UK for continuing his postgraduate studies in the geography sciences. He taught at Tehran University and was the first university professor to include teaching of modern geography in the country’s academic scheme. Ganji was chosen as professor emeritus of Tehran University in 1955. He was chosen as one of 15 distinguished geography scientists of the world in the year 2000 and as the man of the year in the field of geography in 2001./end
