President Calls For Transparency In Penitentiary Case Investigation

Jakarta, April 1 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called for transparency in the investigation of the raid in a penitentiary in Cebongan, Sleman, Yogyakarta, recently that caused four deaths. "Investigate the case thoroughly and account for it to the people. Make it transparent and accountable and uphold professionalism," he said before holding a meeting on social, political, legal and security affairs here on Monday. President Yudhoyono admitted he had received reports about the incident from National Police chief General Timur Pradopo and commander of the Defense Forces (TNI), Admiral Agus Suhartono, several hours after the incident. "I have issued an instruction: investigate it thoroughly, enforce the law against anyone involved for the sake of rule of law and justice," he said. He said he fully supported the investigation teams that have been set up by law enforcers. A group of armed and masked men raided a penitentiary in Cebongan, Sleman, Yogyakarta early on March 23, and killed four detainees the police had put there after arresting them for allegedly being involved in the killing of a member of an army`s special force Kopassus at Hugo`s Cafe days before.
