President Conducts Tarawih Prayer At Istiqlal Mosque

JAKARTA, May 17 (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conducted tarawih prayer on the first night of Ramadan 1439 Hijriah at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, on Wednesday. The president, who chose to pray at the second floor of the mosque room on Wednesday at 06:50 p.m., was wearing a white koko shirt and a brown sarong. The officials who conducted prayers included Wiranto, Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Chief of Staff of President Moeldoko. After entering the room, Jokowi performed sunnah prayer before tarawih. The priest who gave a lecture during tarawih prayer was the High Priest of Istiqlal Mosque, Prof. KH Nasaruddin Umar. Meanwhile, Al Hafiz Muhasyim acted as the first tarawih prayer priest. In addition, Ahmad Husni Ismail became the second tarawih prayer priest. In the lecture, Umar also explained about the importance of fasting.
