President Highlights Crisis In Egypt During National Day Speech

Jakarta, Aug 16 (Antara) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono spoke of the crisis in Egypt during his National Day speech on Friday. In the state-of-the-nation address delivered at the Parliament Building, President Yudohoyono said Indonesia condemned the use of violence against demonstrators in Egypt on Wednesday, Aug 14. "The use of violence and guns is obviously contradicted by human values," he said. "Hence, I call for all sides of the political conflict in Egypt to restrain themselves and try to compromise within the framework of a win-win solution," said President Yudhoyono. In aiming to find a solution to the crisis in Egypt, President Yudhoyono has also spoken to Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon. "We hope the crisis in Egypt could be solved soon," President Yudhoyono said. Regarding other international issues, the President mentioned the role Indonesia has undertaken in building peace in Palestine and Syria. Indonesia has always supported the independence of Palestine and appreciates the new chapter in Palestine-Israel negotiations initiated by US Secretary of State John Kerry, within the framework of a two state solution. Also, in seeking a solution to the conflict in Syria, President Yudhoyono has recently met with Ban Ki Moon, as well as the President of Russia, Turkey`s Prime Minister and the Iranian President.
