President Inaugurates Workers' Hospital

Jakarta, April 8 (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated a public hospital for workers of the PT Kawasan Berikat Nusantara (Nusantara Bonded Area, abbreviated as KBN) in Cakung Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Tuesday. The hospital was initiated by President Yudhoyono in 2012, inspired by his visit to the Batam Industrial area. The purpose of setting up the hospital was to provide medical services for all workers, either under the PT Kawasan Berikat Nusantara or outsiders, including the low to middle-class workers and the poor people in the area. "All workers, including BUMN`s employees, who hold insurance cards can access medical treatment free of charge, while the workers who don`t have any health insurance will get medical aid for a nominal charge," said PT KBN`s Managing Director Sattar Taba. Spread over a 3,652-square-meter area with about Rp65 billion investment, the hospital`s year-long development was completed on September 22 last year, funded by some state-owned enterprises (BUMN), including PT KBN, PT Jamsostek (workers insurance) and PT Askes (health insurance), and construction companies such as PT Binakarya, PT Nindya Karya and PT Indrakarya. While the funds needed for procuring medical tools was Rp40 billion, the reserve fund required for ambulance and consultants was Rp5 billion. "All funds were contributed from BUMN`s corporate social responsibility (CSR)," Sattar said. With a 9,000-square-meter building, eight floors and 184 beds of class II type, the workers` hospital was categorized as a C+ hospital which offers medical services, including outpatient service, emergency, intensive care, surgery as well as hospitalization. The supporting medical facilities such as laboratory, physiotherapy, radiology and medical records, and non-medical facilities such as pharmacy, nutrition, laundry, mortuary and ambulance are also available. Sattar explained that the workers` hospital was built with a green concept which includes an anti-nosocomial (infections caused during hospitalization) ventilation system to help the recovery process of the patients, The hospital`s inauguration ceremony was also attended by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, State-owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan and House of Representatives` Chairman Marzuki Alie.
