President Jokowi Visits Sulawesi

Sidrap, South Sulawesi, Nov 5 (Antara) - President Joko Widodo made a working visit to Sulawesi on Wednesday marking it with an inauguration of an irrigation project in Mojong Bendoro in the district of Sidrap, South Sulawesi. The irrigation project may flow water from Saddang river in Pinrang district to 12,000 hectares of rice fields. President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, laid a corner stone to mark the development of the 2.2 kilometer long and six meter wide irrigation system. Under the heat of sunlight estimated at around 38 degrees Celcius the President then walked along the irrigation channel crowded by people wishing to see and shake hands with the President. "Pak (Mr) Jokowi, Pak Jokowi," they shouted to the President who waved his hand to return their greeting. President Joko Widodo during the tour was flanked by First Lady Iriana, minister of public works Basuki Hadimuljono and state secretary Pratikno. President Jokowi and entourage arrived at Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi, by presidential plane and used a helicopter to reach Sidrap, which is 30 minutes flight from Makassar.
