President of Mexico to Make State Visit to Singapore

SINGAPORE, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The President of the United Mexican States, Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, will make a state visit to Singapore from Sunday to Tuesday at the invitation of President Tony Tan Keng Yam. The president will be accompanied by Mrs Margarita Zavala and senior officials, said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Calderon will be officially welcomed by President Tan at a ceremony at the istana (palace) on Monday and will later meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. President Tan and his wife will host a state banquet in honour of President Calderon that evening. During his stay in Singapore, President Calderon will visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid, the Genus Calderon Zavala, will be named in President Calderon and Mrs Zavala's honour. President Calderon will attend a business roundtable luncheon where Minister, Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for Home Affairs and Second Minister for Trade & Industry S Iswaran and business representatives with interest in Mexico and Latin America will participate. In addition, President Calderon will visit Sembcorp and PSA. On Tuesday, Calderon will deliver a lecture titled "A Mexican Perspective on the Global Economy" organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
