President: Turkmenistan supports development of legal basis of hydrocarbons production

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov.21 / Trend H. Hasanov / With inexhaustible natural hydrocarbon resources Turkmenistan supports development of a legal basis for their production, processing and transit causing no damage to the environment, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said in his address to participants of the International Ecology Conference which opened in Ashgabat on Monday. "Turkmenistan has proposed to establish Caspian Ecological Council as a permanent organization to consider issues environmental protection in the Caspian region and to develop appropriate proposals," the letter reads. It is also noted that making new proposals and initiatives on ecological issues, Turkmenistan is ready for comprehensive promotion and development of positive cooperation at the international level. At the 66th session of the UN General Assembly Ashgabat put forward initiatives to improve the ecological status of the Central Asian region, ensure the stable development of the Caspian Sea region and protect ecological purity of the sea. Berdimuhammadov pays attention to the fact that in a constantly changing world climate Turkmenistan supports goals of the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and is ready to cooperate with international organizations to achieve these goals. In this regard, Turkmenistan proposed to create the UN Interregional Center to address issues of climate change. Emergence of threats related to climate change throughout the world, ozone depletion, desertification threat, water shortage in some regions, environmental pollution, reduction of biological diversity of plants and animals. Caspian Sea, which washes the shores of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Iran is the world's largest intra-continental basin that is not associated with oceans.
