President Visits Quake-stricken Areas In Northwestern Iran

Varzaqan, East Azarbaijan Prov, Nov 1, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Mehtarloo village in the quake-stricken area of Varzaqan located in the suburbs of the provincial capital city of Tabriz on Thursday. The President is in the province on a day-long visit to tour a number of areas which were devastated on August 11 by two earthquakes, measured 6.4 and 6.3. Later in the day, President Ahmadinejad is also to visit the provincial cities of Ahar and Heris to become closely familiar with problems facing the quake-stricken people of the region. Earlier in the day, the President inaugurated Iran's largest concrete dam in the provincial city of Mianeh some 187 km (116 mi) southeast of the provincial capital of Tabriz./end
