Prices of LPG, electricity and tolls fee up in Thailand

BANGKOK, Sept 1 (TNA) - Inflation in Thailand is expected to increase further after the costs of cooking gas, electricity bill and expressway tolls are raised simultaneously on Sunday (Sept 1). Expressway tolls are increased between 5 to 10 baht, depending on the size of vehicles. The Energy Ministry has also increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 50 satang per kilogramme every month from now until August next year. Households and small restaurants using LPG will be affected as a 15-kologramme gas cylinder which is being used most by them will cost about 400 baht compared to 300 baht now. Operators of several restaurants in the northernmost province of Chiang Rai have said they would retain prices of their ready-made food for the time being as they do not wish to put more hardships to consumers. They said they might have to adjust prices later if the costs of vegetables and meat are up later. Also increased is the fuel tariff (FT) rate for electricity as it is risen by seven satang to 54 satang per unit. The increase by the government has come under heavy attack by several sectors, especially by the major political opposition the Democrat Party.(TNA)
