ProChile Agency opened in Bangkok

BANGKOK, May 15 (TNA) - To promote more investment in Chile, the Chilean government has opened the ProChile Agency's regional head office in Bangkok, also aimed to help expand more business opportunities in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The recently-appointed Chilean Trade Commissioner, Jaime Rivera, said in a special interview with Thai News Agency (TNA) on Wednesday morning that the new regional office of the ProChile Agency was set up in September 2012, after its four coordinating offices were earlier set up in other ASEAN member countries. Rivera told TNA that the ProChile Agency operates under the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs but it mostly works with Chilean private businesses to support their overseas investment projects. According to the Chilean trade commissioner, a main purpose of the ProChile Agency is to promote Chile in terms of expanding businesses, investment and tourism, as well as exploring new markets for Chilean entrepreneurs and promoting their export products on the world market. The Chilean trade commissioner acknowledged that Southeast Asia and Chile have a complimentary relationship, meaning that they can exchange products the other side does not have; thus, opening doors to more opportunities for both sides to create stronger trade relations for mutual benefits. The Chilean trade commissioner pointed out, while the relationship between Chile and Southeast Asia has been established for about half a decade so far, solid bilateral relations have only begun with more trade, as people of both sides are learning more about the other side, with increasing Chilean nationals realizing differences among Southeast Asian countries and people, with a more proper understanding that not all ASEAN people are of the Chinese origin.
