Production of ship engines begins in Turkey after 13 years

ANKARA (A.A) - Director General of the Shipyards and Coastal Facilities Department Yasar Duran Aytas said Friday that the production of ship engines in Turkey were performed at shipyards until the Yalova earthquake of 1999 and once the shipyards were transferred to other organizations the production of ship engines came to a virtual halt. Speaking to the AA, Aytas said that the two engines necessary for two ferry boats to travel on Lake Van will be produced by the Turkish Engine Industry Company (TULOMSAS). "As such, the production of ship engines will begin in Turkey again after a break of 13 years," Aytas underlined. 85 percent of the ship engines to be produced in Turkey will have parts manufactured in Turkey, Aytas also said.
