Project for Building C1 Chemical Industry Makes Headway in DPRK

Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- The project for establishing C1 chemical industry is now progressing apace in the DPRK. In this regard, Kim Chon Su, department director of the Ministry of Chemical Industry, told KCNA: The issues of establishing the C1 chemical industry and creating the fertilizer production capacity were discussed as the key point for the development of the country's chemical industry at the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) last year. And the 13th Political Bureau Meeting of the 7th WPK Central Committee set forth the immediate tasks for shoring up the chemical industry as a whole. As of now, the framework construction for 40-odd industrial objects and the construction of buildings in living districts have been stepped up vigorously as part of the project for establishing the C1 chemical industry. The ministry is planning to assemble the equipment and conduct trial operation at the completed construction objects. Meanwhile, the large-scale chemical complexes in Hungnam and Namhung have pushed ahead with the project for expanding the capacity of fertilizer production by means of coal gasification and the establishment of new chemical goods production processes. -0-
