Proposal For Indonesian Worker Salary To Be Credited Into Bank Account

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Aug 19 (Bernama) - The Home Ministry (KDN) has proposed that the employer credit the salary of his Indonesian worker into a bank account to avoid fraud. The proposal was discussed by Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Indonesian Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri during the latter's courtesy call at KDN, here Thursday. Zahid proposed that banks in Indonesia and Malaysia cooperate so that the proposal could be implemented. "If the salary is given in cash, some employers may cheat by not paying the employees. Indonesian workers can open bank accounts using the foreign worker identity card or i-Card. "The transaction will be done online thus facilitating the delivery of money to the workers families in the villagess," he told a press conference. Zahid said Hanif's visit was on the order of Indonesian President Joko Widodo so that all Indonesians without valid travel documents are deported home. "The Indonesian government does not want those without documents to become a burden to the Malaysian government." Hanif will also meet with 1,428 illegal Indonesian illegal immigrants in detention camps. He said the KDN is willing to reduce the amount of fines on illegal immigrants arrested to US$86 (RM300) and US$28 (RM100) for special permit. Up to Nov 2014, the number of Indonesian workers stood at 826,226 or 39.7 percent of the total number of foreign workers in Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
