Protection of Disabled Persons Encouraged in DPRK

Pyongyang, July 29 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 18th founding anniversary of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled. In this regard, Jong Hyon, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the federation, told KCNA: Great efforts have been directed to respecting the personality of persons with disabilities, guaranteeing their socio-political rights and interests by law and thus letting them lead a happy life. Thanks to the policy of loving care of the Workers' Party of Korea for the people and socialist system in the DPRK, a steady progress has been made in strengthening the material and technical foundations for the protection of the disabled as the days go by. Recently, the contents of education were improved at schools for the disabled to make them acquire professional skills. And art group activities are put on a regular basis at those schools, including Taedong Blind School and Songchon Deaf School. Meanwhile, the protection of the disabled has been called for through media and website "Huimang (hope)" was opened. The disabled players of the DPRK have proved successful at the 14th Paralympic Games and other international para games. Now, the federation closely cooperates with international bodies and diplomatic missions to the DPRK. -0-
