Protective measure for online consumers

BANGKOK, Sept 24 (TNA) - The Commerce Ministry’s Department of Business Development (DBD) has decided to reduce the validity of its certification for online traders to five years aimed at protecting consumers after online business has gained more popularity in Thailand. The new rule has been enforced since May. It allows consumers to check identity of online sellers before deciding to buy products and services from them, said the department’s director-general, Banjongjit Angsusingh. The decision requires online traders to renew the so-call ‘DBD Registered’ certification after every five years. It is aimed at setting new standard for e-Commerce businesses in Thailand. Previously, no timeframe for ‘DBD Registered’ was required. Currently, about 27,000 websites possess ‘DBD Registered’ while the department has set the target that the number rises to 60,000 within 2018. (TNA)
