Protest against coal-powered plant continues

BANGKOK, Feb 19 (TNA) - The protest against the planned coal-fired plant project continues near Government House in Bangkok for the third day Sunday. The protesters are gathering in front of a college opposite the Government House, awaiting a release of five protest leaders, who have been taken to an army barrack for talks and change their attitude since yesterday. In another development, 11 protesters who had been also detained at the same army barrack were released. They were sent back to their hometown Saturday night. Kwankanok Kasiravat, one of the protest leaders, said the demonstration would be peaceful and further action will be discussed after the release of five protest leaders. She said Krabi province has abundant natural resources, but the authorities are only interested in using coal in generating power, which would affect environment and the people livelihood. She urged the government to review the decision.(TNA)
