Provincial Administration To Set Flood Alert Status Immediately

Jakarta, Jan 13 (Antara) - The Jakarta Provincial Administration will issue an emergency flood alert statement immediately, so all stakeholders can be evacuated, stated Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi. "So everyone affected by the disaster can be moved. The statement does not indicate an ongoing emergency, but ensures preparations are in place for an emergency situation," said Jokowi at City Hall on Monday. He noted that he had instructed his staff to issue a statement on emergency preparations for flooding. "This morning, we had to release a letter on emergency preparations for flooding. Following this, we will write to the National Disaster Management Board (BNPB)," he remarked. He pointed out that with that letter, the BNPB would receive the green light to conduct weather engineering initiatives to reduce the potential for floods in Jakarta. Previously, Head of Data Information and Public Relations of BNPB Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the Manggarai sluice was in the second-grade Standby position, while sluices in Katulampa and Depok were in the fourth-grade Standby position. "Manggarai is still in a second-grade Standby position, and Karet is in a first-grade Standby position," he claimed. According to him, at 8:30 p.m. local time on Monday, the Regional Disaster Management Board Jakarta noted that water in the two sluices were in the second-grade Standby position. The water level in Manggarai is 910 centimeters and that in Angke Hulu is 290 centimeters. "Meanwhile, the Karet sluice is in the first-grade Standby position, with a water level elevation of 650 centimeters," he stated.
