Punjab Terrorist Attacks Kill Two Policemen, One Bus Passenger

By Santhiran Munisamy NEW DELHI, July 27 (Bernama) -- Two policemen and a bus passenger were killed when gunmen indiscriminately opened fire at a police station and a bus station in Gurdaspur, Punjab, about 400km from here early Monday, according to local media reports. At least 12 people were seriously injured in the incidents, they said. With the situation still unfolding at 9.30 am (noon in Malaysia), police also discovered five live bombs on a railway track of the Pathankot-Amritsar Line, not far from the Dinanagar police station where the first attack occurred. It was reported that the attackers, comprising five to six men in military attire, opened fire at a Jammu-bound bus at 5.45 am, killing one passenger and injuring several others. The gunmen then hijacked a car before attacking a nearby police station, killing two policemen on duty, the media reports said. With the police and army carrying out a "flush-out" operation, the media reported that casualties were likely to rise. Meanwhile, more policemen and para military personnel have been stationed in this capital city, especially near the Supreme Court which is set to hear an application by Yakub Memon to stay his July 30 execution over the 1993 bomb blasts in Mumbai that killed 257 people and critically injured 1,400. --BERNAMA
