Putin stresses Russia-China friendship committee’s role in developing ties

MOSCOW, September 21. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has underlined contribution of the Russian-Chinese committee of friendship, peace and development in strengthening strategic cooperation of the two countries. The committee, launched almost three decades ago, "contributes to extending the social basis of the all-encompassing partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and China," Putin said in a statement for the participants of the tenth plenary session of the committee. Putin said the committee is "an important tool for dialogue between the broad spectrum of the public of the countries," and serves to build confidence and understanding between the citizens, the statement published on the Kremlin’s website on Monday says. The Russian leader expects that during the current session, new ideas and initiatives will be voiced aimed at further boosting the Russian-Chinese cooperation in the social-economic, scientific-technical, humanitarian and other spheres. The committee has "significant experience of successful cooperation" between academic institutes, entrepreneur groups, journalists’ unions, student, youth, female, environmental and sports organizations, as well as regional and local authorities, Putin said.
