Putin will participate in celebrations of 70th anniversary of Victory in WWII in Beijing - presidential aide

MOSCOW, August 31. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and Victory in the War against Japan on the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told journalists on Monday. Ushakov noted that China celebrates the anniversary of Victory in WWII for the first time with such scale, inviting many high-ranking foreign guests. According to Chinese colleagues, more than 20 heads of state and governments will participate in the celebrations, he added. A total of 11 foreign parade units will take part in the military parade, Ushakov said. "Our armed forces will be represented by a unit from the Honor Guard of the Preobrazhensky Regiment," he noted. Ushakov reminded that the leaders of Russia and China will meet on September 3 in Beijing, just like they met on May 9 in Moscow, which indicates that they share common assessment of the results of the Second World War. "I mean that we similarly stand against various attempts to distort history," he concluded. Read more
