Pyongyang Disregards Concerns Of International Community, Says Bangkok

BANGKOK, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- Pyongyang has shown a disregard for the international community's concerns when it launched a long-range rocket, declared as an earth observation satellite, Sunday, said Thailand. Its Foreign Ministry in a statement Monday said the action by North Korea was a clear violation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. "Such an act demonstrates a disregard for the international community's concerns over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's continued nuclear programme, which has been a grave threat to international peace and security," it said. In the statement, Bangkok also reiterated its position in urging Pyongyang to halt its nuclear programme and called for an early resumption of the Six-Party Talks to resolve the matter. "Thailand attaches great importance to the effort of peace-building and security of the Korean peninsula and stands ready to support as well as continue to fully abide by the relevant UNSC resolutions," it said. The Six-Party Talks were launched in 2003 and aimed at ending North Korea's nuclear programme through negotiations involving China, the United States, North and South Korea, Japan and Russia. -- BERNAMA
