Qatar Calls For Moving on to Implementation on Autism From Awareness

New York, April 02 (QNA) -Qatar's permanent mission at the UN, in cooperation with the missions of the US, Bangladesh, India, Nigeria and Chile as well as "Autism Speaks" group have organized a seminar on the World Autism Awareness Day under the theme "Autism: Moving on to Implementation From Awareness ". At the opening session of the seminar, Qatar underlined the need to move from the phase of awareness of autism to execution and to combat unacceptable discrimination, abuse and isolation of those suffering from disorders. Qatar's permanent representative at the UN HE Sheikha Ayla Ahmed Bin Saif Al Thani noted that it is important to integrate the programmes and policies which contribute to increasing the awareness of human rights of people with autism disorders and ensuring their participation in society as full partners in sustained development. She reviewed the challenges facing autism combating programmes and called for cooperation among governments , civil societies and international bodies. She also explained Qatar's efforts in this field. Qatar has lent due attention to meeting the needs of those who suffer from such disorders, she said. At the seminar Qatar's efforts in the field were praised by speakers. In November 2007, April 2 was designated World Autism Awareness Day following the adoption of a relevant Qatari resolution at the plenary of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly.(QNA)
