Qatar Calls for Taking Effective Measures to Protect Civilians in Occupied Palestinian Territories

Geneva, December 17 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has urged the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to take effective measures to achieve real and concrete protection for the civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories , including East Jerusalem, after Israel had failed to meet its obligations. This came in a statement by Qatar's permanent delegation during their participation in the Conference of High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians in armed conflict, held in Geneva to consider measures to enforce and ensure respect for the Convention in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. The State of Qatar has expressed its appreciation to the Swiss Government for holding the Conference to discuss measures to enforce the Convention in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, thereby promoting commitment contained in common article 1 of all four Geneva Conventions of 1949, which States parties undertake to respect these (conventions) and ensure respect for them in all circumstances. The statement noted that the importance of holding such a Conference, at this time, comes from the fact that the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention should take effective measures to achieve actual and concrete protection of the civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, as protected persons under the Convention.(QNA)
