Qatar Charity Cooperates with UN to Provide Water and Sanitation in Crises-Hit Areas Worldwide

New York, July 16 (QNA) - Qatar Charity and the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), affiliated with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic cooperation aiming at implementing joint projects, sharing experiences and finding funding opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the field of humanitarian and development work, under the support and sponsorship of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD). The MoU, which was agreed on the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development currently in session at the UN Headquarters in New York, was signed by Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Charity Yousef Al Hammadi and Executive Director of the WSSCC Rolf Luyendijk. The MoU aims at establishing a strategic cooperation between the two sides, through which Qatar Charity becomes an executive partner for the programs and projects of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council, in accordance with the terms and conditions stipulated in the agreement. The MoU also aims at exchanging experiences, finding joint funding opportunities in the field of humanitarian and development work and creating opportunities for cooperation in countries and regions agreed upon by the two sides. Commenting on the MoU, Deputy Director-General of Planning at Qatar Fund for Development Ali Abdullah Al Dabbagh said that the partnership between Qatar Charity and the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council will effectively contribute to the efforts exerted to develop the field of sanitation at the international level, and to promote the aspects of cooperation with the education and health sectors. He noted that sustainable sanitation achievements require the adoption of strong partnerships between development agencies, non-governmental organizations and international organizations, in line with the Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals. For his part, Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Charity Yousef Al Hammadi said that the MoU reflects the strong cooperation between Qatar Charity and the WSSCC, stressing the importance of cooperation and building strategic partnerships as means to confront the challenges of development and humanitarian work, especially with the increasing number of displaced people and refugees worldwide due to the high frequency of conflict in many areas. He added that Qatar Charity has been able, through its collaboration with development partners and local civil society organizations, to lay the groundwork for project design and implementation based on its local knowledge of cultural standards and development priorities, enabling it to achieve more effective and responsive interventions. Meanwhile, Executive Director of the WSSCC Rolf Luyendijk said that the disasters and humanitarian crises currently taking place in the world calls for more coordination among humanitarian actors. He hoped that the MoU signed with Qatar Charity will add value to the provision of services efficiently and effectively and to the improvement of hygiene and the provision of adequate water. Qatar Fund for Development had organized a high-level meeting in cooperation with the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council to examine the impact of health facilities on education and health, within the framework of an integrated approach to human development on the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York.
