Qatar Charity Cooperation with UN Agencies Amounts to QR 42.8 Million Last Year

Doha, September 25 (QNA) - The partnership between the Qatar Charity Society (QC) and United Nations agencies has witnessed continuous growth, whether in terms of the size of this cooperation or the diversity of its areas or the number of beneficiaries worldwide in the areas of relief and development. The QC said in a report that the total value of this cooperation amounted to more than QR 42.8 million last year, while the number of beneficiaries reached more than 6 million in eight countries including Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Lebanon, Niger, Myanmar, Bangladesh and the Sudan. The report noted that Qatar Charity's cooperation with the United Nations system included 7 specialized UN agencies including UNHCR, UNICEF, WHO, WFP, FAO, UNDP and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Humanitarian "OCHA". The report pointed out that Qatar Charity's cooperation with UNHCR received the largest share of cooperation with other UN agencies last year. The two sides signed seven contracts worth more than QR 17.5 million, benefiting more than 181,000 people in six countries including Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Lebanon, Yemen, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Qatar Charity cooperated with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Food Program (WFP), in Syria which was ranked second in terms of size, with a total value of QR 7.3 million. It also cooperated with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) last year with more than QR 1.4 million in two decades in Sudan, benefiting about 1,100 people, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization in a joint program valued at QR 112,690 , benefiting 4,746 people in Niger. Qatar Charity's cooperation with the UN agencies included the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), amounting to QR 1.8 million to support the Office's coordination efforts in the humanitarian response for the Syrian people. According to the report, these partnerships with UN agencies covered shelter and food sectors with a value of QR 16.8 million , foodstuffs worth QR 7.3 million , emergency health of more than QR 8 million , water and sanitation with QR 7.3 million , livelihoods with more than QR 1.4 million , and the coordination with more than QR1.8 million . According to the International Financial Aid Tracing Service, Qatar Charity ranked first in terms of spending on humanitarian response in Syria, Somalia, Iraq, Myanmar, Yemen, Pakistan, Palestine and Sudan.
