Qatar Committed to Investing in Human Capital, HE Minister of Culture Says

Milan, August 01 (QNA) - HE Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr. Hamad bin Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari said that the leadership of Qatar understood the importance of investing in people. HE the Minister of Culture noted that the biggest indication of that was the important role culture plays in Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar National Strategy 2011-2016. HE the Minister was speaking at a conference of Ministers of Culture participating in Expo Milano 2015. HE Qatar's Ambassador in Italy Abdul Aziz bin Ahmed Al Malki attended the event along with members of the Qatari delegation and prominent politicians from across the globe. HE the Minister of Culture discussed the role the State of Qatar, under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, plays in dealing with challenges that face the world. His Excellency highlighted the lack of food and climate change as well as mismanagement and education as one of the major challenges facing the international community. HE the Minister added that the international community cannot become complacent in the face of these challenges. HE the Minister of Culture stressed on the importance of culture in improving the quality of life in any society. His Excellency stressed that one cannot separate culture and development. His Excellency added that different policies develop the right values that help development. HE the Minister noted that the World Decade for Cultural Development (1988-1998) stressed on the link between culture and development. His Excellency noted that the biggest challenge was convincing policy makers with the threats facing humanity. HE the Minister of Culture expressed the State of Qatar's appreciation to the role UNESCO plays in culture and linking it to sustainable development. HE the Minister said that Qatar has been witnessing a rise in the role of culture ever since Doha was selected as the Arab capital for culture back in 2010. HE the Minister of Culture arrived to Italy from France where he delivered a speech at the group of 77 summit. (END)
