Qatar Committed to Supporting Sustainable Water Resources: Minister of Energy

Doha, March 02 (QNA) - Under the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al -Thani, the State of Qatar is committed to support sustainable water sources, its conservation in consistent with the Arab Water Day under the theme of 'Rationalizing use of water to achieve sustainable development", HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada said today. Speaking at marking Arab Water Day which falls on 3rd March every year, Al-Sada said that Qatar attaches great importance to raise awareness of the importance of rationalizing the use of water as one of the effective means to maintain the country's water resources, which form the basis of the renaissance of the state and its progress, especially since the per capita consumption of water is one of the highest in the world. Qatar is working according to a clear policy as part of its strategy for the management of natural resources, which is considered a road map to achieve sustainability and preservation of generations' rights , while saying it is a shared responsibility requiring everyone to stop wasting water and follow the proper habits of its usage as a daily practice and a culture of the community so as to ensure sustainable development , he added. HE Minister of Energy explained that Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) works to consolidate a culture of water conservation through its national program for conservation and energy efficiency "Tarsheed", which it launched under the patronage of HH the the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al -Thani in April 2012 . He noted that the policies and strategies of "Tarsheed", is to urge all society's segments to preserve resources to ensure achievement of the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, where KAHRAMAA works through "Tarsheed", in cooperation with a number of bodies in the country and communicate with schools to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% and 20% by 2017. He called on citizens and residents to cooperate in the rationalization of consumption, as an irreplaceable common moral, national and religious responsibility in order to maintain the source of life and to ensure a decent livelihood.(QNA)
