Doha, May 29 (QNA) - Qatar Development Fund (QDF) on Sunday signed a US $ 5 million agreement with the Turkey's Humanitarian Pooled Fund (HPF) in the presence of HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the Foreign Minister and QDF Chairman. The agreement was signed by QDF General-Director, Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, and the United Nations' Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O'Brien. Al Kuwari said that the signing of the agreement to support HPF stressed the State of Qatar and QDF's keenness to support the Syrian people through humanitarian and development assistance programs. He stressed the long term Qatar's support for Syrian refugees in times of crisis while QDF continues to back thousands of them through financing humanitarian operations and providing assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis in Syria. For his part, O'Brien called on the international community to follow the steps made by the State of Qatar and provide assistance for humanitarian operations in Syria, pointing out that such contributions could save the Syrians' lives in particular women and children.
