Qatar Green Building Council Launches E-Survey

Doha, September 22 (QNA) - Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) is launching a new e-survey that seeks insight into residents' energy and water usage at home. This survey is to ensure a greener future as more than 120 world leaders gather at the United Nations Climate Summit in New York this week to set out ambitious targets for energy efficiency and sustainable development, the Council said Monday. QGBC's latest initiative, the How Green Is Your Home? e-survey, will gather information from Qatari citizens and expatriates over the next four weeks about how they use electricity, gas and water, in addition to their behaviour in using regular household appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines and televisions. Commenting on the launch, QGBC Director Meshal Al Shamari said, "Qatar has been blessed with a natural wealth of energy resources, but how we live our lives still matters. "Living sustainably is important to the benefit of our natural environment. As global leaders request affordable and scalable solutions at the United Nations Climate Summit, we are hopeful that the Qatar public's response to the QGBC e-survey will provide us with a clear picture to help households meet the forward-looking, green goals set out in the Qatar National Vision 2030." The survey will be open for four weeks in order to gather as much information as possible. Available in both Arabic and English, the e-survey poses questions on electricity consumption through food preparation, TV watching and use of other domestic appliances. QGBC also expects answers to questions on bathing, showering and washing clothes would give insights into water consumption. Recycling is another section of the e-survey. It will ask individuals about experiences and attitudes towards reducing waste and the factors that might persuade them to recycle more. QGBC's expert members and volunteers will analyze information from the e-survey and identify practical solutions to ease the country's demand on the earth's vital natural resources. (QNA)
