Qatar Keen on Expanding Technical Cooperation with IAEA

Vienna, November 20 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has confirmed that it is looking to expand the technical cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), particularly as it has ambitious programs in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the medical, environmental and economic fields. Qatar also stressed that it attaches great importance to the technical cooperation program implemented by the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) as a principal legal means to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, noting that it had benefited from the program in developing its capabilities in the field of nuclear analysis and food laboratories. This came in Qatar's statement today at the Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency board meeting on technical cooperation program offered by the IAEA to the Member States, delivered by HE Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Qatar's Ambassador to Austria and its Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna. HE Ambassador Al Mansouri said that "this program plays an important role in making nuclear techniques available for activities in health care, agriculture and environmental protection areas, which contribute to the social and economic progress in developing countries." He noted that Qatar continues to cooperate with the agency and the Department of Technical Cooperation, particularly in the implementation of projects presented by the State of Qatar during the previous years in fields of nuclear analysis, medical treatment, the development of food laboratories, radiation doses laboratory as well as the development of the National Framework Programme for the organization of radiation safety and increasing the capacity and preparedness to respond to emergencies. Qatar attaches importance to achieve a stable resource for the implementation of technical cooperation programs as one of the most successful factor for implementation of the program , HE Ambassador Al Mansouri stressed. He said Qatar has fully paid its contribution to the program for 2013 and 2014 f and will continue to pay its obligations to the program. (QNA)
