Qatar Museums to Participate in 26th Annual Doha International Book Fair

Doha, December 01 (QNA) -Qatar Museums (QM), the body responsible for developing, promoting and sustaining Qatars cultural sector under the visionary guidance of its Chairperson, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, will actively participate in the 26th Doha International Book Fair from 2-12 December 2015 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). QM will launch two new books at the 26th Doha International Book Fair: "Qatari Kitchen" and "99 Domes". "Qatari Kitchen", which is written by Qatari writer Aisha Al Tamimi, gives a panoramic view of the architecture of Qatari homes, and focuses on the essential space of the kitchen. Written by Qatari author Ibrahim Mohamed Jaidah, "99 Domes" is a rich visual and spatial journey of the masjid, highlighting the design intricacies that merge magnificence and simplicity in a unique harmony. Both of these books will be launched at the QM booth on Thursday 3 December evening. Written by Qatari author Fatema AlSulaiti, "Faisals Adventures" contribute to enhancing the relation between the reader and the Qatari community with its rich culture and traditions. The child gets involved with the story and relate to Faisals character. In addition to the two book launches and in collaboration with a number of cultural organisations including the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, QM will host a number of creative workshops and book discussions inspired by two of QMs special exhibitions from 2015, "The Hunt" and "Marvellous Creatures", in addition to the workshops "Olympic Sports" and "Ottoman Costumes for families to enjoy. At the workshop for "The Hunt", visitors will be invited to discover the importance and symbolism of the falcon in Islamic Art, as inspired by MIAs special exhibition "The Hunt: Princely Pursuits in Islamic Lands". Visitors will be able to reproduce a symmetrical design of two Ottoman falcons, in addition to other creative activities. Open to families, the workshop will take place on Sunday 6 December at 5pm. Visitors to the "Marvellous Creatures" workshop will be able to make their own animal masks in a one-day workshop inspired by MIAs special exhibition "Marvellous Creatures: Animal Fables in Islamic Art". The workshop will also be open to families, and will take place on Monday 7 December at 5pm. There will be a number of creative workshops developed by QM especially for adults. These will include "Arabic Calligraphy and the Quran: A Shared Journey", a book discussion with author Ibrahim Y. Al Fakhroo, which will take place on Friday 4 December at 7pm. The book displays a rare collection of Quran, which was the main source of Arabic calligraphy, starting from the ninth until the 21st century. In addition, "Effective Article Writing Skills", a session with Mohammed Al Jefairi which explores the secrets of effective article-writing will take place on Saturday 5 December at 7pm; "Me, My Child and Reading", a motivational workshop for parents to discover methods to motivate and engage children to enjoy reading will take place on Wednesday 9 December and Friday 11 December at 7pm and "Make Your Book Jacket", a workshop to teach children how to use recycled paper to produce creative designs will take place on Saturday, 5 December 2015, 10am-1pm, Sunday-Tuesday, 6-8 December 2015, 4:30pm-6:30pm. For university and secondary school students, QM will host a workshop in Arabic called "Writing Short Stories". Presented by Dr. Imtenan Smadi, the workshop will take place on Tuesday 8 December at 3pm and explain the elements of effective short story writing according to the latest research and literary schools. There will be a wide range of sessions for primary and secondary school children, too. Sessions will include "Journey Through Time for Kids", a workshop inspired by Ottoman costumes and orientalist paintings in which children can create their own outfits and enjoy other fun-filled activities on Thursday 3 and 10 December at 10am. At the "Make Your Book Jacket" workshop, children will learn an easy and creative way to make a book jacket using recycled paper to keep their favourite books safe, running from Sunday 6 to Tuesday 8 December at 4.30pm. In addition, the "Discover Olympics Sports World" workshop will help children to discover the Olympics and values of sports as everyday behavioural qualities through creative activities. This workshop will take place from Sunday 6 to Tuesday 8 December at 10am. For the Doha International Book Fairs more junior visitors, QM will host two fun and interactive story-reading sessions: "Story Time with Maktaba" and "The legend of Mai and Gheilan". The story-reading sessions with Maktaba will take place on Saturday 5 December at 5pm and Saturday 12 December at 11am, while the "Legend of the Sea" reading will take place on Wednesday 9 December at 4pm. These include a number of specially-commissioned catalogues and beautifully-illustrated traditional books which have been published by QM this year, all of which will be available at the QM booth. These include exhibition catalogues for "The Hunt: Princely Pursuits in Islamic Lands", "Shirin Neshat: Afterwards" and "Luc Tuymans: Intolerance". Traditional books will also be available for children, including "Al Nafla Night", "The Most Beautiful Garangao Night", "A Tale of Gold", and "The Good Luck Bird", while traditional books for adults will include "The Cycle in the Social Life in Qatari Society", "Myths from Qatar Heritage" and "Traditional Games in Qatar". In addition to these books, the newly-launched "Qatari Kitchen" and "99 Domes" will be available to buy after the event at Qatar Museums retail outlets, located at the Museum of Islamic Art, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art at Qatar Foundation, Al Zubarah, the QM galleries at Al Riwaq and Katara, and the Virgin Megastores and WH Smith outlets in Doha.(END)
