Qatar National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking Issues Annual Report

Doha, September 25 (QNA) - National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking issued its annual report 2017-2018, which included the most prominent efforts exerted by various institutions concerned with combating trafficking in human beings at various levels and the efforts of the Committee during the past period. The report stressed that Qatar has been keen to enact national legislation and establish international partnerships to confront this criminal phenomenon, which constitutes a violation of human rights and a threat to the security of the State. The report also noted the various activities carried out by the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking between 2017 and 2018, including courses, seminars, and training programs covering various sectors of the State with a view on raising awareness and building national capacities. The Committee concluded its annual report with a number of recommendations that would strengthen the State's efforts to combat trafficking in human beings, thereby increasing the prosecution of perpetrators, enhancing precautionary measures to prevent them and enriching the State's actions to protect victims. National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking was formed in accordance with the Council of Ministers Resolution No. (15) of 2017 and includes in its membership representatives of the relevant governmental bodies, legal entities and civil society institutions. The Committee has a number of tasks, the most important of which is the development of the national plan to combat trafficking in human beings, the preparation of programs and mechanisms implemented in coordination with the concerned authorities in the State, and raising the awareness of the means of combating this crime through holding conferences and training programs.
