Qatar Offers a Cheque of $ 100,000 in Support of Palestinian Education Sector

Brussels, June 04 (QNA) - HE Qatar’s Ambassador to Belgium, Sheikh Ali Bin Jassim Al Thani met at the Qatar embassy premises in Brussels on Wednesday Pierre Krihenbehl , the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and handed him Qatar’s cheque of $ 100,000 . Qatar has pledged during the UNRWA conference held under the title," The involvement of young Palestinian refugees in the Middle East change" to donate $100,000 to support the education sector for the Palestinian youths. The aforesaid conference was held in cooperation with the European Union and the Belgian government. HE sheikh Ali bin Jassim al Thani in a press statement following the meeting, that the stand of HH the emir of Qatar sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani supportive to the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people is an extension of the unique and superb positions of HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani in this regard. Elaborating HE the Qatari Ambassador to Belgium said that the support provided to UNRWA with a view to offering consolidation to the Palestinian people and help alleviate their suffering and meeting their needs, came in implementation of the recommendations of the Qatari leadership led by HH the Emir of Qatar, affirming meantime that Qatar spared no efforts and has not been hesitating to supply support to the Palestinian people. Praising in the same context the role played by UNRWA in providing basic requirements to the Palestinian refugees in its five operation areas (the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria). For his part, Pierre Krihenbehl, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA has expressed utmost appreciation of the UN agency to the State of Qatar's leadership, government and people for their support, and the impact of such support on the continuity of the provision of services to the Palestinian refugees, especially in the fields of education and health. Krihenbehl said that UNRWA is very grateful for the contribution made by the State of Qatar, especially since the State of Qatar was and is still one of the largest Arab countries supporting and backing such a UN organization.(QNA)
