Qatar Panel Visits Japan Ahead of UN Crime Congress

Doha, October 23 (QNA) - A delegation from Qatar visited Japan to do preparative work ahead of the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice that will be held in Doha from April 12 to 19 in 2015. Chairman of the UN Congress Preparatory Committee Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal led the delegation from Qatar. He met with Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Takashi UTO. The ambassador of Qatar to Japan HE Yusuf Muhammad Bilal also attended the meeting, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said today. The officials discussed and reviewed Japan's efforts in support of the conference as well as post-2015 development agenda. Japan expressed its optimism about the conference and its participation in the high-level meeting. The Qatar delegation also met with the Japan's Attorney General Kotaro Ono and held discussions vis-a-vis the preparations of the Congress. Officials held talks in the presence of the Ambassador of Qatar to Japan and UNODC's Corruption and Economic Crime Branch Chief Dimitri Vlassis. Official’s reviews all topics and workshops included in the conference and Japan's vision on the draft Doha Declaration in the presence of representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs and Justice, the MoI said. Earlier, the Qatari delegation visited the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime to learn about the institute's systems and their plans for their participation in workshops to be held on the sidelines of 13th UN Congress, MoI said.
